Sizing Guide
- A: For men's sleeve length only. Take your measurement from the center base of your neck to your first thumb knuckle.
- B1+B2: For women's anoraks only. B1 represents "shoulders" in guide, measure from side neck to tip of shoulder. B2 represents sleeve length in guide, measure from tip of shoulder to first thumb knuckle.
- C: For chest measurement, wrap tape around the fullest part of your bare chest.
- D: Represents "body length" in guide, measurement is from back, base of neck to hem.
- E: Represents "sweep" circumference of the garment.
Measuring tips & notes:
- Always use a tailor's tape when taking your measurements! A carpenter's tape will not bend properly and your numbers will be off. Tip: if you don't have a tailor's tape, simply use a string to measure yourself, then lay it flat and measure the string.
- When measuring for sleeve length, hold your arms out at a slight angle, not straight down.
- This can vary depending on personal preference, but a good rule of thumb is to take a size that's 8-10'' greater than your bare chest measurement for the anoraks, and 6-8'' for the Raglan. For vests, since they're worn closer to your body, 1-2'' should be okay depending on how many layers you'll wear under it.
- If you're shopping for a canvas anorak to layer over a woolie, we recommend you choose a canvas anorak 2 sizes greater than your wool anorak.
- All fabrics are preshrunk.
- Because they're handmade, please allow approx. 1" margin of error.
- The numbers below represent the measurements of the garments.

Our flagship model, The Rough© is the most sought-after wool anorak in the industry and was given its name because it was built for roughing it out in the wild. It’s made with our exclusively milled advanced performance wool, and weighs in at 650/700 gsm. We know that many people shy away from wool because it’s irritable to the skin and we understand, so we designed and milled this fabric to be softer to the touch, contrary to its name.
Fabric: 95% wool/5% synthetic
Why a BMA anorak?
Inspired by traditional Indigenous outer shells, BMA anoraks are handmade in Canada with a commitment to provide you with heirloom quality, functional garments. Our anoraks are designed with a focus on thermal regulation– we make them wide and long to protect your vitals and allow for layering. In addition, we think reliability is especially important when out in the bush so we actively avoid using hardware that can fail like zippers and snaps. From the gauntlet to the sleeves to the kangaroo pocket, every detail was meticulously thought out to maximize your warmth and comfort while exploring nature.
The benefits of wool:
- Antibacterial
- Hypoallergenic
- Water repellent
- Fire retardant
- Moisture wicking
- Silent
- Retains up to 80% of its insulating properties when wet
BMA’s Dual Layering System
For all of you layering enthusiasts, we recommend one of our canvas anoraks to be worn over our wool anoraks. While each can be worn on their own, this combined layering system – wool inside, canvas outside – will keep you extra warm and dry. If you are considering two layers, we recommend starting with only a woolie first. Also, remember that your canvas anorak will likely need to be larger than your woolie so you can layer comfortably. For questions or more information about our dual layering system, feel free to contact us before your purchase and we’ll be happy to walk you through the process.
